The Voices We Hear – Exciting Escapes [CLOSED]

It’s 1988, and a secret government medical research facility has fallen silent. You’re recruited to find out what’s happened. That will just be the first of your problems, though, as the terrifying secrets of the hospital begin to be revealed…..

Hosting

We were super keen to try two more Exciting Escapes rooms before they closed so booked last minute (as always), and took a day trip to Portsmouth. I think we have been spoilt by some pretty excellent hosts recently so compared this hosting felt a bit lacklustre and scripted.

Theming

The theme was quite a generic serial killer mystery set in a forgotten medical facility. The host checked whether we were up for a scare, and we eagerly agreed — something I would come to regret at the midpoint of the game. The room was sufficiently creepy and everything stayed on theme, though there was definitely room to dial up the tension without relying too heavily on grisly props.

Puzzling

About halfway through, the game becomes a split‑room experience, and at that point I was honestly too freaked out to solve anything. We somehow managed to stay separated far longer than necessary, which may have been on us — or a flaw in the puzzle flow. The main reason for the lower score is that many of the puzzles felt a bit rough and ambiguous, leaving us more frustrated than fearful. However, the final part with a bit more dramatic flair (but no live actors) was incredibly thrilling and exactly the kind of moment we’d love to see more of in other escape rooms.

Only a few more days left until Exciting Escapes closes for good! Check them out whilst you can… we certainly did!
