Comic Chaos – The Lift

Step into Comic Chaos, a visually striking escape room in Brighton set inside the monochrome lair of the infamous comic book villain, Dr Riddlesworth. Driven by chaos and control, he is determined to drain our world of colour, replacing it with his stark black-and-white vision. Now it’s up to you to stop him. Enter his lair, solve his twisted puzzles, and shut down the device before everything fades to grey.

Hosting

We booked Comic Chaos at The Lift on a whim, hoping for something different. The host was friendly, though a bit reserved, and the venue was a literal shipping container, which unfortunately amplified the heat on that particular day.

Theming

Moving past the temperature, the theme was truly unique. We entered a black-and-white comic world where a villain had stolen all color, and our mission was to bring it back. The aesthetic was striking, immersing us in a 2D comic universe.

Puzzling

The room had a clear structure: eight boxes, each with its own puzzle. This made progression easy to follow. Some puzzles were fun, while others felt a bit tedious or instruction-heavy. Unfortunately, we encountered a couple of technical hiccups. One lock was already unlocked, and another puzzle required the host to step in to restart some electronics. While the theme was great, we felt more puzzles could have embraced the comic hero-vs-villain narrative somehow. And it would have been amazing if solving each puzzle physically added colour back into the room.

Despite these points, the room is well-suited for beginners, offering a creative and approachable experience that differs from some of Brighton’s other Escape Room companies. Check them out below:
