Modrophenia – Pier Pressure

Step back into the swinging 60s with this Mods and Rockers themed escape room. Don’t get too carried away with the cool 60s tunes, the vintage Vespa scooter or playing with the genuine 1964 pinball machine though. There’s a murder mystery to solve here!

Hosting

The team at Pier Pressure are just brilliant: upbeat, engaging, and fully prepared to make a fool of themselves to make sure you have as much fun as possible. This visit was no exception with another fantastic, in-character, hosting experience transporting us back to the 1960s Brighton Mod scene.

Theming

The theming of this room was ‘outta sight’ complete with a retro motorbike, pinball machine and geometric wallpaper. The aim is to solve the mystery of gangster Jimmy’s whereabouts which created a clear direction for the puzzle solving. As with one of their other rooms, Pavilion Perplex, it’s a really nice touch that the theming is specific to Brighton, so locals and tourists alike might appreciate some of the pictures and references. You can’t help but be immersed in the world’s that Pier Pressure create.

Puzzling

The puzzles were super fun and on theme, making use of every aspect of the space. Without giving away too much there is a point where the story develops which although interesting creates a bit of a bottle neck. Some of the puzzles in the second half weren’t as clear as we might have liked, but overall we had a smashing time.

This wasn’t our favourite room from Pier Pressure, but that’s simply because they’ve set a really high bar for themselves. As evidenced here, we will keep coming back for as long as they make rooms (which, given their current expansion rate, is hopefully a very long time indeed!).
