Pavilion Perplex – Pier Pressure

Step inside the opulence and elegance of Brighton’s Royal Pavilion to save the Pavilion itself from total destruction. Find the petition; save the building! This most classy of escape room adventures is set in 1850, with a huge variety of puzzles but no padlocks or keycodes because those things didn’t exist in 1850!

Hosting

A common theme for The Key Knows is ringing up last minute to try and squeeze in another Escape Room, so we were grateful for the team for being so accommodating! The host on the door was very chatty and even remembered us from our previous visit, which is a lovely personal touch. After the usual spiel, we were greeted by our host the game who was very much in character as a suave, yet ascerbic butler in dire need of our help to find the petition. The hint mechanism was to ring a small bell, which is perfectly on theme, though we didn’t need any hints this game so can’t comment on the delivery system. At the end of the game, the host was more than happy to chat through all the puzzles with us, which we always enjoy.

Theming

The theme was somewhat novel and Brighton-specific by emulating the nearby Pavilion, and we were thrust back over 100 years into a Victorian-era parlour room. The first space itself was effective and on-themed, though not as dramatic as some of their other rooms, but everything felt sufficiently in place. A second space perhaps felt a little incongruous but we were immersed enough to continue enjoying ourselves.

Puzzling

In keeping with the theme, this room had no modern padlocks, and all the puzzles fit in well. There was lots of searching to be done (which is something we do enjoy, although it’s often our downfall!). Some of the puzzles had more than one layer to them, which adds to the challenge and the satisfaction. One minor issue was one puzzle with a chain felt a little unclear, but everything else was so smooth, that can be forgiven!

Another great day out with Pier Pressure (see more room reviews here), and we would heartily recommend you check them out. Tell them The Key Knows sent you!
