Block 29 – XScream Escapes [CLOSED]

After months of escaped patients from Bedlam Asylum, the owners have decided to move their ‘experiments’ to a top-secret area of the asylum called ‘Block 29’ to continue their research on normal, everyday people. This new facility was home to a couple who were separated in opposing cells, however, they realised their communication was the key to escaping this eerie institution for good. They escaped just before their treatment – but at what cost to the next patients… you!

Hosting

After loving Xscream Escapes’ The Watcher, we were gutted to hear the company was closing. Naturally, we had to squeeze in their other two horror rooms, so we made a last‑minute midweek double booking and braced ourselves to be scared silly. Our host greeted us with a slightly checked‑out demeanour and warned us that the two rooms we’d booked were easier and less scary than The Watcher. Considering The Watcher almost made Nathan poop his pants, this felt like a perfectly acceptable downgrade.

Theming/Puzzling

First up: Block 29, set in a prison/asylum hybrid where we were split between two cells and forced to communicate through a tiny grate. We’ve played a fair few split‑start rooms, but this one was easily one of the best. Every puzzle required input from both sides in a way that felt symmetrical, clever, and genuinely satisfying. My only gripe: the spooky atmospheric music was cranked up a bit too high, which made hearing each other an unintended extra challenge. Aside from that, the puzzles were varied, the flow was smooth, and the theming hit the right level of creepy. We escaped in under half an hour, which stroked our egos nicely.

A perfectly decent room, with lots to celebrate. Unfortunately they are now closed, but you can find other horror escape room below:
