Hosting

Escape 101 takes on our 101st escape room! We’d been warned this one was epic, so we enlisted some backup — and spoiler: it absolutely was. From the moment our host welcomed us into the building, we were no longer escape room enthusiasts but contestants on the 90s game show Trapped For Cash. We even got to dress the part in some seriously rad shell jackets and bucket hats, which set the tone perfectly.

Theming

This is an excellently designed room, with the focal point being a wall of “pods” that opened as we progressed, each revealing a different game‑show‑style puzzle. The whole space feels like a slice of a TV set: not just the main stage area, but also the behind‑the‑scenes zone filled with authentic props that all come into play during the puzzles.

Puzzling

One of the things I loved most was how clearly the puzzles fit the theme. In some rooms, it’s not always obvious why you’re solving things, but here every puzzle was its own game show, earning you a cash prize that allowed you to continue. I’m so glad there were four of us, because there are a lot of puzzles to get through. Teams can work on two game shows simultaneously, which helped us complete most of them. A couple of puzzles could have been a touch clearer, and one ate up more time than expected, but overall the puzzles were plentiful, fun‑filled, and wonderfully nostalgic.

We may not have been allowed to keep our game‑show winnings, but we’re definitely richer for having experienced this epic escape room.
