Hosting

We’ve played one Houdini’s room before which, although not perfect, was a fun Dungeons‑and‑Dragons‑style adventure. Unfortunately, Houdini’s Last Secret wasn’t a fun adventure at all: it was just a frustrating waste of money. The host lacked enthusiasm and any real passion for escape rooms, which was our first red flag. It always seems to be the case that the most prolific escape room companies are the ones with the least soul.

Theming

The room itself was quite bare with not that much to interact with. There is so much scope for how to deck out a Houdini-themed but this space just felt very half-hearted and unloved.

Puzzling

Some puzzles could have been good, but they desperately needed a fresh coat of paint and some revamping. The host had to explain far too much over the speaker, which is never the mark of a strong puzzle. There also weren’t many puzzles to solve in the first place, so we were out in under 30 minutes, which felt enormously unsatisfying. Houdini’s really needs to give this room a serious update and straighten out the issues (you know, like a straightjacket).

I’m not sure that a follow up visit to Houdini’s is on the cards for us, but if you’d like to see for yourself, just click the link below:
